PAINTERS OF LIGHT. FROM DIVISIONISM TO FUTURISM: REVIEW OF THE EXHIBITION AT THE MART MUSEUM
Painters of light at the Mart Museum. The exhibition I pittori della luce. Dal Divisionismo al Futurismo (Painters of light. From Divisionism to Futurism) will arrive at the Mart Museum in Rovereto, and will illustrate the journey of two fundamental Italian artistic movements which marked a turning point in the Italian art.
I’ve already written that this exhibition at the Mart Museum in Rovereto will be the most important event in the 2016 summer in Trentino. Now that I visited it, I’m ready to tell you why you can’t miss it.
Painters of light
The exhibition I pittori della luce. Dal Divisionismo al Futurismo (Painters of light. From Divisionism to Futurism) will arrive in Rovereto after the great success it had in Madrid. In fact, the exhibition is produced by the Mart Museum and by the Fundación MAPFRE, and it will describe a specific historical period through a series of Italian works of art.
80 masterpieces will illustrate the origins and the development of Divisionism until the rise of Futurism.
Divisionism manifested itself in 1891 and, as I wrote in the post in which I described the history of the movement, it marked the birth of a new painting in Italy.
The search for light, the juxtaposition of colour, and the use of small brushstrokes brought great novelties in Italian art world between the end of the 19th century and the early 20th century.
You will admire paintings by the artists who made a revolution in Italian art world, but who were also interested in what was happening in the world, for example with the international trend of Symbolism.

The exhibition at the Mart Museum will tell you a story through images, and the end of this story will lead you directly to the birth of Futurism, the main Italian avant-garde movement founded by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti.

Divided into 6 sections, the exhibition itinerary will illustrate in a complete way an artistic movement in which light of Divisionism became speed and movement in Futurism, defining the birth of modern painting in Italy.
On show some of the most famous works by Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni, Carlo Carrà, Giuseppe Pelizza da Volpedo, Giovanni Segantini and many more.
How to reach the Mart Museum and how to visit the exhibition
You can easily reach Rovereto to visit the Mart Museum either by car (A22 Brennero Motorway (Brenner Motorway), exit Rovereto Sud / Lago di Garda (Lake Garda) Nord and exit Rovereto Nord), or by train, which is also the main mean of transportation I suggest that you should use if you arrive in Italy by plane (the closest airports are in Milan, Venice, Treviso and Verona). I arrived in Rovereto by train, and then I took a taxi to reach the Mart Museum which is located in the city centre.
I used the AdigeTaxi service that I found just in front of the Rovereto railway station, and in few minutes it took me to the museum, and gave me a lot of useful information about where to eat and how to reach the Casa d’arte futurista Depero.

Di mostre belle ce ne sono tante, ma alcune promettono molto e poi quando vai a vederle non ti lasciano nulla.
Questa è una mostra che mi ha permesso di uscire un po’ più ricca di conoscenza e con un sorriso stampato sulla faccia.
Ovviamente poi ogni esperienza è soggettiva, ma credo che difficilmente potrà deludere questa visita.
Se andrai fammi sapere se ti è piaciuta e se anche tu eri felice quando sei uscita 😉
I visited this exhibition last week and found it to be one of the best I have been to. The gallery was a work of art in itself and the permanent collection was riveting. The Futurist artists are a particular favourite and it was exciting to pick up on new names to explore further.

I hope you have also seen the nearby Casa Depero, because Rovereto and its neighborhoods have grown some of the most important stars of Divisonismo and Futurism 🙂
