 THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CITIES IN THE WORLD: 5 BIRTH PLACES OF IMPORTANT PAINTERS TO SEE 

Have you ever chosen a destination to visit a city in search of works painted by only one artist?
It’s almost my golden rule, especially when I visit a place for the first time, and I know that I’ll have little time to see everything. I usually focus on an important local artist, and there are several cities that saw the birth and the growth of artists, and now house their works in very famous museums.

I made a list of 5 birth palaces of famous painters to see in the world, a journey to discover who really made history of art.

1 – AIX-EN-PROVENCE E PAUL CEZANNE

Cezanne was born and Ain-en-Provence, which was the favourite subject of his paintings. The Montagne Sainte-Victoire portrayed by Cezanne in many paintings is still there, and if you look at it as the painter did, you can see the birth of Cubism.

2 – WARSAV and TAMARA DE LEMPICKA

Tamara de Lempicka was born at the end of the 19^th century to a Jewish family of Russian origin, and she felt immediately that this city was too small for her, and she preferred travel around the world in order to express her art and live her life freely.
Her life was long and intense, as I wrote in the post 5 things to know about Tamara de Lempicka.
But she never forgot Warsaw, and her works are on exhibition at the Warsaw National Museum.

3 – NEW YORK and JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT

His art has changed the way to see graffiti in the big metropolises. Jean-Michel Basquiat was born and lived in New York and was the king of New York graffiti together with Keith Haring, bringing graffiti from the streets directly to art galleries.
His works are exhibited in the most important museums in the world, and also at the MoMA of New York, whereas his young life cut short due to drugs is a vivid memory, and his tomb located in Green-Wood cemetery is a destination for his fans all over the world.

4 – VENICE AND CANALETTO

No artist in the world has portrayed the marvels of Venice so perfectly like Canaletto did. Canaletto was very popular among English noblemen who commissioned him to paint vedute (landscapes) of the Gran Canal and St. Mark’s Square.
Canaletto was the father of Vedutismo (landscape painting) and some of his paintings are housed at Ca’ Rezzonico, Museo del Settecento Veneziano (Ca’ Rezzonico, the museum of 18^th century Venice).

5 – CITTÀ DEL MESSICO E FRIDA KAHLO

Frida is the most well-known Mexican painters in the world. A free woman, enamoured, and able, still today, to capture attention of the world with her works and her story.
Born and grown up in Mexico City in the early 20^th century, her house is called La Casa Azul (the Blue House), where she lived together with the love of her life, Diego Rivera, and where you can still feel the presence of Frida.
