WHAT TO DO IN MILAN IN ONE DAY: WHERE TO GO AND WHAT TO SEE IF YOU’RE AN ART LOVER
To visit Milan in one day you need organization and a pair of comfortable shoes.
It’s an efficient city and full of history, and is probably the most European-feeling cities in Italy, in the sense that you go to Milan for tourism but especially due to business reasons, but also to get inspired by the latest novelties in fashion and art.
I’ve already written the post What to see in Milan: the museums you must see, which is a guide to the museums to see in Milan in one day.
In this post, instead, I would like to recommend different and unusual itineraries. Here are my tips on what to do and what to see in Milan in only one day.
What to do in Milan in one day
MILAN IN ONE DAY: LEONARDO’S VINEYARD
If you’ve got one day to visit Milan, you shouldn’t miss the Vineyard, where Leonardo da Vinci produced his favourite wine and which is still active.
Visiting this place, which is located in the city centre, means visiting a piece of Milan’s history, because the vineyard was given to Leonardo by Ludovico Sforza, Duke of Milan, in 1499 as a gift for painting The Last Supper (to know everything about this masterpiece, read the post The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci: 5 things to know) and wine production continued from that moment until WWII.
Only in the mid-20th century some grapevines have been recovered, and a new season for Leonardo’s Vineyard has begun.
The visit lasts around 25 minutes and, since it is an unusual place, it has been very popular with tourists in the last few years.
MILAN IN ONE DAY: THE VISIT TO LA SCALA THEATRE
Milan is history, fashion and music.
Few steps from the Duomo is one of the most famous theatres in the world you can visit in 1.5 hours.
In this temple of music Giuseppe Verdi, Gioachino Rossini, Luciano Pavarotti, Maria Callas and many more artists and composers have performed. For this reason anyone who visits Milan should enter, at least once, this theatre which houses also the world’s most important collection of musical instruments, costumes and props.
You need to book your guided tour of La Scala Theatre.
MILAN IN ONE DAY: TOURIST BUS
To visit Milan in one day and feel free to go wherever you want, you can book your tourist bus ticket, valid 24 hours, which allows you to get on, or get off, the places you like the most.
