Uffizi Gallery

If you think of museums in Florence to visit, I’m sure that the Uffizi Gallery is the first thing that comes to your mind. If you visit Florence for the very first time you must enter the Uffizi Gallery, but if you come back many times you might feel the desire to see again its works, because one time is not enough!
As regards the visit, remember that you’d better book your Uffizi tickets to skip the line at the entrance.

As regards what to see, instead, I’ll make a list of only 4 masterpieces you shouldn’t miss at the Uffizi Gallery. But, obviously, inside the museum you’ll be enchanted by a multitude of works of art on display:

• Primavera by Sandro Botticelli
• Medusa by Caravaggio
• The Doni Tondo by Michelangelo
• The Venus of Urbino by Titian

Pitti Palace and Boboli Gardens
If you want to know the history of Florence, the Pitti Palace is the building you must enter because it houses many museums.
Here you can admire paintings, furniture, period costumes and much more. Without forgetting that also the Boboli Gardens are part of the itinerary, where you can admire the city of Florence immersed in an open-air museum.

Accademia Gallery
Among the museums in Florence to visit, you can’t miss the Accademia Gallery.
It houses a work alone that is worth the admission ticket: Michelangelo’s David.
The statue was originally located in front of Palazzo Vecchio, where now stands a copy, but the original marble block, made immortal by Michelangelo, is on display in this museum.

Museum of Palazzo Vecchio
This is one of the places in Florence where anyone can find something interesting and curious. From Roman remains to traces of the medieval fortress up to frescoes of Renaissance rooms, here it’s easy to be enchanted.

Museum dell’Opera del Duomo (Museum of the works of the Cathedral)
Behind the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore is the museum containing works, sculptures, objects and history of the Florence Cathedral, Giotto’s Bell Tower and Baptistery.
If you want to understand how Brunelleschi built the dome you must enter this museum where you’ll find also the original panels of Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise, Donatello’s Penitent Magdalene and the objects of the Treasure of the Florence Cathedral.

Stibbert Museum
The house museum of Frederick Stibbert, a rich art collector of English origin who lived in the 19th century in Florence, is a collection of unique works of art.
The Palace and the entire collection of weapons, suits of armour, costumes and objects dating from different ages were donated by Stibbert to the city of Florence after his death, making it the most original place to be visited.

The Medici Chapel
This place houses the tombs of the Medici Grand Dukes of Tuscany and their family members and the Sacrestia Nuova (New Sacristy) was designed by Michelangelo. Here also Lorenzo il Magnifico was buried, the man who more than others supported arts and artists of the Renaissance.

National Museum of Bargello
If Michelangelo’s David is on display in the Accademia Gallery, the other famous David, Donatello’s David, is housed in the National Museum of Bargello.
This is the museum of sculpture, weapons, jewellery and applied arts of Florence, where the creative ability of Florentine artists will appear amazing to you.
