200 WORKS BY ESCHER ON SHOW IN FLORENCE
Discovered by the general public in recent years, Escher’s works on display in Florence offer an opportunity to discover a visionary artist and to admire his creative universe.
In Escher’s art, science and nature, mathematics and magic, analytical rigour and contemplative capacity, come together and create impossible images.
Dutch-born Escher, who lived in Italy for many years, is a unique figure on the 20th century art scene. His works are part of the collective imagination and still today are capable of arousing admiration and reflections on our way of observing the world.

Escher was born in 1898 in Holland and died in his native country in 1972.
His connection with Italy, however, is very important, as he took up residence here for many years, representing it in many of his works.
Visionary, reserved and brilliant, Escher is the creator of works that present impossible and fantastic worlds, where art, mathematics, science, physics and design come together.
The 200 works by Escher on display in Florence allow visitors to admire his most representative works, the ones that made him famous all over the world. This is an opportunity to get to know the genius of the Dutch artist better with the most iconic works of his production such as Self-portrait in the Mirror, also known as Hand with Reflecting Sphere (1935), Bond of Union (1956), Metamorphosis II (1939), Day and Night (1938) and the Emblemata series, which belong to the common imagination referring to the great artist.
The exhibition is divided into eight sections.

The Escher exhibition is the first major exhibition event within the monumental complex, designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, that houses the wonderful and extremely rich Museo degli Innocenti, which is already on its way to becoming a venue for major art exhibitions.
