DAY 1

SANTA MARIA DEL FIORE AND BRUNELLESCHI’S DOME

We begin our journey into the heart of Florence with a visit to the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Duomo of Florence), one of the most emblematic symbols of the city. The cathedral, with its imposing white, rose-green marble facade, is a masterpiece of Gothic and Renaissance architecture.
What captures the attention of every visitor, however, is Brunelleschi’s Dome, which is visible from everywhere in the city of Florence and stops us in our tracks to understand the greatness and talent of Renaissance artists in Florence. The building, designed by Giorgio Vasari in the 16th century, houses a priceless collection of artworks, with masterpieces by artists such as Botticelli, Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Raphael and Caravaggio, to name a few.
Among the most famous works inside the Uffizi are Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and Primavera, masterpieces that represent the Renaissance ideal of beauty.

CAPPELLE MEDICEE

I conclude our two-day itinerary in Florence by recommending a visit to the Cappelle Medicee, part of the San Lorenzo complex. These chapels serve as mausoleums for members of the Medici family and are an example of Renaissance art architecture
The Chapel of the Princes, with its opulent decoration and Medici sarcophagi, is an expression of power and wealth. The New Sacristy, designed by Michelangelo, houses some of his most famous funerary sculptures, including the tombs of Lorenzo the Magnificent and Giuliano de’ Medici.
Michelangelo’s secret room was also recently unearthed. In fact, it seems that the artist for a few months of his life hid in this place to escape the wrath of the pope, and while waiting he drew sketches on the walls in which some figures from the Sistine Chapel are known.
