THE BAGATTI VALSECCHI MUSEUM: A FAMILY AFFAIR
The Bagatti Valsecchi Museum. My favourite museums are house museums, because they preserve their intimate and welcoming aspect typical of a house, but they narrate stories and events of their inhabitants, as well.
The house museums are not only art collections, but also containers of tales, and I talked about my latest passion for one of these house museums in the post about the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum.
Until October 2nd Milan will host an exhibition to celebrate the return home of one of its masterpieces, which we will admire together on September 9th 2016.
A Family Affair. The Marinoni and the Polyptych of Saint John the Baptist is the exhibition arranged at the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum to celebrate the return home of the Polyptych of Saint John the Baptist, after being in restoration for a year.
The work, painted in 1493 by Giovanni Marinoni together with his sons Bernardino and Antonio, is the only signed and dated painting that has come down to us from the Marinoni workshop. For five generation the Marinoni were a dynasty of painters who worked in all the province of Bergamo.
After the exhibition the polyptych will returned to its original place, but before that, it will be put on display in a special room where the visitors will be allowed to observe at a short distance each detail.
On the occasion of this event the opening times of the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum will be prolonged, and special guided tours will be organized, and one of these will be curated by me.
On September 9th 2016 you and I will visit together the Museum and the exhibition.
We will spend the afternoon at the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum; we will have the opportunity to know each other, to chat and to admire at a short distance one of the most fascinating house museums in Milan.
