THE WORKS OF CHARLES RAY BETWEEN REALISM AND PARADOX

Realism and paradox are the two elements that characterise Charles Ray’s works.
In his sculptures, human figures and objects are represented in a realistic and almost detached way, but the more you look at them, the more something seems strange: the size, the material, the realism.

In Charles Ray’s work it is as if reality is celebrated and at the same time questioned.

The works of Giovanni Carnovali, called Piccio, in Carrara

Giovanni Carnovali |Piccio | Gina Caccia

Giovanni Carnovali, detto Piccio Ritratto di Gina Caccia (La collana verde) – (1862)

THE WORKS OF GIOVANNI CARNOVALI, KNOWN AS PICCIO, AT THE ACADEMY OF CARRARA

There are a total of 14 works by Giovanni Carnovali at the Academy of Carrara.
These paintings cover a complete period of time (from the 1920s to the 1860s), so much so that it can be said that the museum in Bergamo has a sort of “permanent monograph” on the painter, capable of narrating many aspects of his personality and stylistic research.

Carnovali’s personal and professional life is richly intertwined with Carrara and the Bergamo area, a compelling story that the master’s own works are able to tell.
Piccio, in fact, was one of the most capable and experimental painters of nineteenth-century Lombardy, and not only, who spent most of his professional life in Bergamo, including his artistic training.

THE WORKS OF DONATELLO, SYMBOL OF THE RENAISSANCE

Donatello’s works made a profound mark on art in the 15th century, becoming a point of reference for entire generations of artists.
His fame as a sculptor and architect spread from Tuscany to the Veneto, from the Marches to Rome and Naples, comparable only to the greats of art history such as Giotto, Raphael, Michelangelo and Bernini.

Donatello’s modern spirit pushed him to continually question himself, creating an unpredictable style that challenged the fashions and tastes of the time: a transgressive artist who, starting from Antiquity and the more distant Middle Ages, arrived at a new way of seeing and understanding the world.

There is an exhibition in Florence that traces the history and art of Donatello and at the bottom of this post you will find all the information you need to visit it. but first I will show you the most important works that you need to know.
