THE BRERA ART GALLERY: THE WORKS YOU CAN’T MISS AND HOW TO PLAN YOUR VISIT

The Pinacoteca di Brera (Brera Art Gallery) is a great museum which unlike other great Italian art galleries, such as the Uffizi Gallery of Florence, didn’t originate from aristocratic collecting.
The works displayed at the Brera Art Gallery don’t come from collections belonging to a Prince or noble families, but is the collection of works used for the education of students attending the Academy of Fine Arts.
In the early 19th century, thanks to Napoleon Bonaparte, it turns into a museum.

And Parma is a wonderful art city, which looks like a European city.

Refined and precious, Parma is a city brimming with treasures, art and culture.
Several illustrious people made Parma famous, but only a few marked the artistic image of the city.
Among them the most important artist is Antonio Allegri, known as Correggio (1489-1534).
In this post what to do in Parma discovering Correggio’s masterpieces.

GUERCINO IN PIACENZA AND THE FRESCOES HOUSED IN THE CATHEDRAL

Piacenza is the entrance door of the Emilia, and is the city where you can admire one of the masterpieces painted by Guercino.
Fortresses, castles and villages are the setting of a very old city, which needs to be discovered little by little.

The Romans chose this territory of the Po valley to build a fortification and to establish a place of trade, which in the Middle Ages became an important economic centre, and later an important cultural centre.
To discover Piacenza you’d better start from the Cathedral, founded in the Middle Ages, which shows power and is a harmonious mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles. But Guercino’s frescoes in Piacenza will draw your attention.
