Richard Ginori: the manufacture of beauty

RICHARD GINORI: THE MANUFACTURE OF BEAUTY

Founded in 1737 by the Marquis Carlo Ginori in Doccia, near Florence, the porcelain manufacture of Sesto Fiorentino, become in 1896 the Richard Ginori Manufacture, is the most ancient in Italy and is still working.

The Marquis Ginori built a collection of models coming from the workshops of the sculptors of the late-Renaissance and early-Baroque periods; but at the same time he collected models from the workshops of Florentine sculptors of that time, or he commissioned reduced scale copies of the most well-known ancient sculptures.

The Arco lamp

THE ARCO LAMP

It was 1962 and light fell on tables, desks and magazines directly from the ceiling.
There were also floor lamps, but they were unwieldy and didn’t light exactly the point you needed.
An idea came to the Castiglioni brothers, Pier Giacomo and Anchille: to make a marble base and a steel arc-shaped structure which allowed the light to shine exactly on the point you needed. Brilliant!

Kenny Random: works

Why should an eyewear brand link its name and its latest collection to a street artist and to his works?

The new O-Six collection is aimed at getting a different perspective, and has a lot in common with Kenny Random’s works, who is considered the Italian Bansky.
But in Random’s works we can find romanticism and poetry more than the irony which characterizes Bansky’s works.
Kenny Random’s Street Art reminds us that we should observe the world in a different way, and that we need to look beyond stone alleys and vehicle entrances of our cities. That’s why O-Six brand has chosen Kenny Random’s graffiti for the new eyewear campaign, to get a different perspective!

Glass for interior: the idea of designer Vito Nesta

Vito Nesta | designer

NEW LIFE TO OPALINE GLASS WHICH COMBINES WITH STEEL IN THE INNOVATIVE PROJECT BY DESIGNER VITO NESTA

Glass is a very ancient material and glass for interior in a great idea.
In the past great masterpieces were created, but still today this material is capable of inspiring artists, and especially designers.
One of the exhibitions I suggested that you visit on the occasion of the Venice Biennale 2017 is dedicated to Ettore Sottsass and his relationship with glass.

During the last Salone del Mobile designer Vito Nesta presented an innovative project which combines a material of the past, such as opaline glass, with a modern material, such as steel.
With the project RISVOLTI, realized in collaboration with Effetto Vetro, opaline glass, which is gone out of production since the 1950s, is associated to Supermirror steel.
I addressed some questions to Vito Nesta, in order to understand where the idea came from, and how important the relationship between tradition and innovation is to him.
