In the heart of New York City in 1923, Roy Lichtenstein was born, destined to become a defining figure in the evolution of 20th-century art.
Recognized as one of the leading artists of Pop Art, Lichtenstein initially drew inspiration from popular images from comic books and advertisements, reworking them with an approach reminiscent of the newspaper press.
His art renewed American art, but it also changed the way artwork is viewed.

In his lifetime, Roy Lichtenstein created more than 5,000 works of art, each marked by an unmistakable touch of originality.

ROY LICHTENSTEIN’S INNOVATIVE APPROACH

In the 1960s, Lichtenstein was in the habit of selecting images considered of low value and transforming them, enriching them with his artistic vision. At
a time when art with a commercial bent was viewed with skepticism, Lichtenstein devoted himself to giving new value to images that were undervalued and considered of little interest, understanding that in those very images was the story of the real America.

LICHTENSTEIN’S UNMISTAKABLE TECHNIQUE

In 1961, Lichtenstein had the revolutionary idea of placing comic book characters on abstract backgrounds. Despite his immense talent, many critics and art enthusiasts were initially taken aback by his works and considered them trivial and superficial. However, behind each of his works was an amazing technique.
His unique technique made it possible to replicate industrial printing processes. Thanks also to the use of bright colors, bold outlines, and the famous Ben Day dots (a name that pays homage to 19th-century inventor Benjamin Henry Day), each of Lichtenstein’s works looks like a perfect print, even though every detail was meticulously hand-painted.
