Which are the works of the Museo del Novecento (Museum of the 20th century) in Milan you should seet?
It’s not easy to make a list of the unmissable masterpieces, because it’s a museum housing many works of Italian art, and not only, of the 20th century.
In this post you’ll find some works you shouldn’t miss for any reason before exiting the Museo del Novecento.
Works of the Museo del Novecento in Milan
From Modigliani to Kandinsky, from Boccioni to Klee, up to Mondrian, De Chirico and Pellizza da Volpedo.
Here is my list of the unmissable works.
WORKS OF THE MUSEO DEL NOVECENTO IN MILAN: THE UNMISSABLE MASTERPIECES
Composition by Wassily Kandinsky
Among the works of the Museo del Novecento in Milan you should see is certainly “Composition” by Kandinsky.
The painting was painted in 1916 in order to offer spectators the same emotional power you feel when listening to a musical composition.
The work is an explosion of shapes and colours.
Portrait of Paul Guillaume by Amedeo Modigliani
The Portrait of Paul Guillaume is one of the works of the Museo del Novecento in Milan you shouldn’t miss.
The great French art collector and patron was portrayed by Modigliani, who was inspired by a series of photos taken in 1915 in Modigliani’s studio.
The Fontana Hall and Lucio Fontana’s works
Lucio Fontana’s works are displayed in a special place and, in fact, the last floor of the museum is totally dedicated to this great Italian artist of the 20th century.
The Fontana Hall was designed to become itself a work of art.
Unique Forms of Continuity in Space by Umberto Boccioni
For art and sculpture lovers this is one of the fundamental works of the 20th century art and in particular of Futurism.
The basics of the creation of this masterpiece are fluidity and movement, which anyone who observes it can clearly perceive.
WORKS OF THE 20TH CENTURY MUSEUM: CURIOSITIES
The Fourth Estate by Giuseppe Pellizza da Volpedo
A symbol of the political and social battles and struggles for workers’ rights, the Fourth Estate was kept in the Museo del Novecento in Milan for many years.
After much controversy, however, the canvas was moved to the Galleria d’Arte Moderna (GAM), between the rooms dedicated to Giovanni Segantini and Previati.
I don’t think I’m the only one wondering about Paul Guillaume’s eyes. Explanation?
Did you get a reply regarding the eyes of Paul Guillaume?
No, mi spiace.
