Futurism

Futurism is an artistic movement of avant-garde born in 1909 with the publication in France of the Manifesto of Futurism.

The manifesto was published in the newspaper Le Figaro by Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, and it announced the beginning of the struggle against the tradition, and was in sharp contrast with the Romantic culture of the 19th century.

My visit to the exhibition dedicated to Boccioni in Milan

Exhibition Boccioni in Milan. On the centenary of Umberto Boccioni’s death, Milan hosts an exhibition which retraces, in a new and original way, the artistic path of one of the main artists of the 20th century.

I took part in a reserved visit, just a few hours before the official inauguration of the exhibition. I visited the empty rooms of Palazzo Reale (the Royal Palace), where the works were ready to welcome all the visitors who were queuing up, waiting to enter.

El Greco was the Renaissance artist who, more than other artists, developed a unique and personal style. He inspired generations of artists, and especially those who would be the protagonists of the 20th- century artistic scene.

There are still some obscure issues concerning El Greco’s life, but we know for sure that he rejected the Byzantine culture in favour of the Western culture, and created a unique style.
