VENICE BIENNALE 2022 TICKETS, PAVILIONS, SIDE EVENTS
Venice Biennale 2022, tickets, pavilions, collateral events, what to see and where to go.
This is it, the Art Biennale, after the 2020 stop due to the pandemic, is about to reopen its doors and is ready to show the new trends of contemporary art.
Every two years, the world’s most important and prestigious international art exhibition presents a theme to reflect on and allows the various nations of the world to describe their point of view on art, the world and creativity, always sparking off a battle between those who claim that the previous Biennale was the best or that this is the best Biennale ever.
The only thing that is certain is that since 1895 the Biennale has been attracting the most important contemporary artists to Venice, provoking discussion, debate, scandal, protest and inspiration.
This is why you need a guide, or rather a survival kit, to help you find your way around and immediately know where to go and what to see.
In this post you will find all the updates on the Venice Biennale 2022 what to see, where to go and what to do 😉

DATES OF THE BIENNALE ARTE 2022
The 59. International Art Exhibition runs from 23 April to 27 November 2022 and is entitled ‘The Milk of Dreams‘.
The exhibition takes its name from a book by Leonora Carrington in which, as Cecilia Alemani explains, “the surrealist artist describes a magical world in which life is constantly reinvented through the prism of the imagination and in which one is allowed to change, to transform, to become other than oneself. The exhibition proposes an imaginary journey through the metamorphoses of bodies and definitions of the human.”
The 59. International Art Exhibition will present, as usual, the National Participations (80 in this edition) with their own exhibitions in the Pavilions at the Giardini and at the Arsenale, as well as in the historic centre of Venice. This edition will also include selected Collateral Events, proposed by international bodies and institutions, which will set up their exhibitions and initiatives in Venice.

ARTISTS SUPPORTED BY SWATCH – Swatch is a partner of the Venice Biennale and confirms its commitment to the promotion of art with two projects.
Committed to supporting contemporary art, Swatch returns as a main partner to the 59th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale for the sixth consecutive time. International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale for the sixth consecutive time. The Swiss watch manufacturer, which has always considered its passion for artists and their work to be a fundamental pillar of the brand, will present several works of art at both locations of the most important international art event. In the Sale d’Armi dell’Arsenale, Swatch Faces will host the works of former residents of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel, while the Giardini will present “THE DESCRIPTION OF THE WORLD”, an installation designed specifically for that venue, by Thai artist Navin Rawanchaikul.
From Shanghai to Venice: Since its opening in November 2011, the Swatch Art Peace Hotel has hosted more than 450 artists from 54 countries. In order to encourage creative exchange, artists from all disciplines are invited to live and work in studio flats for a period of three to six months in one of Shanghai’s iconic buildings. Swatch Faces 2022 will present a selection of artists selected from this unique residency.
Read more about Swatch’s commitment to art and Swatch’s love of art in an interview with Carlo Giordanetti.
Swatch has invited Navin Rawanchaikul to the Giardini, where the Thai artist will create “THE DESCRIPTION OF THE WORLD”, an installation specifically for that location. The artwork is sure to be stunning, a truly engaging pop icon with a story to tell.
As has been the tradition for several editions now, Swatch will present a Swatch Art Special edition, as well as a watch model inspired by the graphic identity of the Biennale Arte 2022.
30 OF ILLY ART COLLECTION – A cup of illy coffee represents the union of taste, beauty and sustainability. A beauty that the company communicates through its deep connection with contemporary art and that it will celebrate, on the occasion of the Biennale Arte 2022, with an exhibition hosted in the Giardini Reali in Venice.
The exhibition will retrace the main stages of the 30 years of the illy Art Collection, the iconic cups that have transformed an everyday object into a blank canvas on which, over the years, great artists of international renown have worked.
The exhibition will also be the setting for a series of events in which the testimony of masters of contemporary art will be integrated with that of masters of quality, expressions of the union of the beautiful and the good that characterise the illy brand.

WHO IS THE CURATOR OF THE BIENNALE 2022 AND WHAT IS THE THEME?
Cecilia Alemani is the curator of the Biennale 2022.
In 2020 she has coordinated the work of the directors of all the sectors of the Biennale (Art, Architecture, Cinema, Dance, Music, Theatre) to create the exhibition Le muse inquiete. La Biennale in the face of history.
The restlessness and the assumption of responsibility inherent in the artistic act were the inspiration behind that exhibition, which told a large part of the Biennale’s story. Today, the starting point of the next Art Biennale seems to be the reinvention of new and more sustainable relationships between individuals and everything that populates the universe in which we live.
There could be no better way for Cecilia Alemani to open, through these two experiences, new doors for the Biennales of the future.”
Cecilia Alemani explains the choice of theme for the Venice Biennale 2022:
“The exhibition takes its name from a book by the surrealist artist Leonora Carrington (1917-2011), who in Mexico in the 1950s imagined and illustrated mysterious fairy tales, first directly on the walls of her house, and then collected them in a little book called The Milk of Dreams. Told in a dreamlike style that seems to terrify adults and children alike, Carrington’s stories imagine a free world full of infinite possibilities, but also the allegory of a century that imposes intolerable pressure on identity, forcing Carrington to live as an exile, locked up in psychiatric hospitals, a perpetual object of fascination and desire but also a figure of rare strength and mystery, always escaping the constraints of a fixed and consistent identity.”
“The exhibition was born out of the many conversations I have had with many artists in recent months. From these conversations, a series of questions have emerged insistently that not only evoke this precise moment in history when the very survival of humanity is threatened, but also summarise many other questions that have dominated the sciences, the arts and the myths of our time. How is the definition of human changing? How do we define life and what are the differences that separate the animal, the plant, the human and the non-human? What are our responsibilities towards our fellow human beings, other life forms and the planet we inhabit? And what would life be like without us?”
“The exhibition focuses in particular on three thematic areas: the representation of bodies and their metamorphoses; the relationship between individuals and technologies; and the links between bodies and the Earth.”

Thanks for this information about the Venice Biennale. Is a ticket for “The Milk of Dreams” good for any date of the exhibition? I don’t see anything in the purchase process that asks one to specify the date of attendance (other than guided tours).
If the booking procedure does not require a date, the ticket is activated on the first day you enter.
In fact, Giardini and Arsenale have different and differentiated entrances but the ticket is unique.
