VISITING VIENNA IN ONE DAY: WHAT TO DO AND WHERE TO GO IF YOU’RE AN ART LOVER AND YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS THE MOST IMPORTANT PLACES
To visit Vienna in one day you need to have comfortable shoes and the desire to immerse yourself in a refined city with an illustrious past.
When I visited the city of Vienna I had a week at my disposal to see it calmly, but I think that the plan I made the first day is perfect to have a general idea of the city, and for this reason I’ll share it with you who have only 24 hours at your disposal.
Here are my tips to visit Vienna in only one day, which will make you waste not even a minute of your precious time waiting in queue in front of the museums or finding the important places by using Google Maps.
Visiting Vienna in one day
VIENNA IN ONE DAY: THE ALBERTINA MUSEUM
For your one-day tour my advice to you is to visit the museum located in one of the largest palaces of the Habsburg family, and which now contains the largest collection of drawings and prints in the world.
I’m talking about the Albertina Museum, located in the historic centre of Vienna and which houses works by Leonardo Da Vinci, Raphael, Michelangelo, Dürer, Rubens and many more artists.
Don’t miss the Batliner collection, one of the largest and most important private collections in Europe, containing works by Impressionist and post-Impressionist artists such as Monet, Degas, Cézanne, Toulouse-Lautrec and Gauguin, but also works of Picasso’s early Cubist period, works of early 1940s, prints and experimental paintings. The Albertina is the museum and place you must visit to revive the great splendours of the Imperial Vienna and its true essence.
The Albertina Museum is one of the most visited museums in Vienna and you’d better book your admission ticket, to avoid wasting time waiting in line in front of the entrance. To book just go to the page I wrote with the link to book tickets for the Albertina Museum and all the information you need.
VIENNA IN ONE DAY: IMPERIAL VIENNA TOUR
Since you have little time at your disposal, your second stop should be an Imperial Vienna guided tour.
There are several tourist guides who offer itineraries to discover the city and it’s always difficult to choose the right one. But I believe that to visit Vienna in one day you need to explore the city by admiring its main attractions.
This Imperial Vienna tour lasts 2 and a half hours and in a short time allows you to admire the Hofburg palace, St. Stephen’s Cathedral, the Vienna State Opera and all places symbols of Vienna which was the capital city of the Austrian Empire under the reign of the Habsburg family for many centuries.
VISITING VIENNA IN ONE DAY ON BOARD A BOAT TOUR ALONG THE DANUBE RIVER
If I hadn’t gone on a Danube Cruise I would have seen only half Vienna.
The mini cruise on Europe’s longest river is one of the experiences you must enjoy in Vienna and, since it lasts at least one hour, you’d better seize the opportunity and book it immediately.
You can choose to take just a boat cruise or you can board a boat where you can have dinner, to finish the day in style.
All you have to do is select the cruise suitable for you!
You’d better choose in advance which kind of cruise to take, because they are tours with specific schedules and, because you’ll visit Vienna in one day, you’d better plan your trip in advance, to avoid running the risk of not finding a seat.
